Supporting the health and creativity of older people
through inspirational, movement led arts activity
Love to Dance is an Arts Council funded project supporting the physical, mental and social well-being of older people through high quality creative arts provision, particularly dance. Consisting of two strands of work, a team of community dancers works in care home settings and also in developing a number of companies of active older dancers in Devon and Somerset.
Working in care settings as Life Circles, the team deliver bespoke stimulating sessions which demonstrate the power of this work to engage participants and support care managers and their staff to improve the atmosphere and offer in their settings.
The sessions are designed to engage and enliven participants with lots of sensory work for clients using imaginary and actual visual aids. They are tailored to the moods, passions, life stories, and fears of participants who may feel very isolated in the later stages of their lives and embed creativity and energy into the culture of how we care for our elders.
Dance groups for Older People
Another key strand of work is developing new and existing dance groups for older people, who meet regularly to create work, go and see exciting dance, organise dance parties and occasionally perform at events.
Groups currently run in Exeter, Sidmouth and Crediton, Devon and North Curry and
Integral to the vision for the project has been the training that is offered alongside our Life Circles work to care staff as well as delivering two National Training days, one in Devon and one in Somerset.
